Last Friday, without much warning, my shift manager didn’t show. So, I had to be shift manager. This whole thing was just dropped on us. He had been training me, but it was still to soon. I haven’t been properly trained yet, nor have I had the required classes. If that wasn’t enough, I had to contend with the Italian-American/Carnival rush. The north was blocked, so they all had to pass us…
It started out sketchy, I had to go in earlier than usual and do all the things my shift manager did for me. One big difference, our vault was VERY low. So, we couldn’t do much and I just kind of crossed my fingers we didn’t run out of money. We, the girl I had been training and me, managed pretty well – her with no break and me bout 4 hits off a cigg.
When first shift started to come in, however, that changed. Seeing as how we were bout an hour behind, the next shift manager just yelled a lot. Then she had the balls to yell out orders we knew needed be done. Figured she likes register she can manage that bit (which is her job) and me and the other girl would finish what we couldn’t during our shift. Nope, that would make too much sense. She wasn’t going to help one bit. Which made us cranky.
When our boss got in she got the update. She was VERY pleased with how we managed. Then told me not to mind the other shift runner. Apparently, she isn’t happy with her job and is on her way out. The grapevine told me, even customers are complaining bout her. When my shift manager had a go with her, he told her that his two best girls were talking bout quitting (which we haven’t). She softened a bit, probably due to fact that if I quit she will be on night shift again (which she hates). So, I reckon whatever happens between her and I aint anything new or much of a problem.
Now, our boss signed Mom and I up for classes. Since it is more convenient, we will have them on the same night. Once done, we will be able to run our own shifts. Mom’s able to start so soon because she was a shift runner for them before. Most of this will just be a recap for her. Course, that means I will be extra trained lol ^_^
