The mother lost all four of her puppies before we could get her. So, we received her and one of her pups from another litter on Friday. When they first came in the fleas were obvious (man were they covered). Put them in the bath ASAP. Due to the fact that they were both so dirty, each one left a different ring around the tub.
After their bath, all the problem areas were easier to spot. We knew they would be bad, but this was ludicrous. Both had scabs from the itching and biting. The son you could feel his ribs, the mothers’ you could see (she just had puppies for cryin out loud). The son is only 5 months old, so there wasn’t too much work that needed be done. The mother, however, was bald in numerous spots. One of which was around her neck; no flea collar for her. She also had the longest nails I had ever seen in my life – Especially for a mini collie.
Mom called Shirl then they ran to the store and got the necessities. Once everything calmed down they got fed. Only took them a couple minutes to inhale their food, even with the kids putting their heads and hands in the dish. It was then that we realized how skittish they were. A normal level of play wouldn’t be easy. Figured toys may help; they hid from them. So, we just let them lay and look at their surroundings outside.
We had another one of our cousins come over and cut the mother’s nails. He informed us that her nails were so long because she never went outside. One of her nails was possibly infected to due to the fungi on it, which he didn’t cut because it was causing her pain. So, he recommended some cream and to keep an eye on it.
Then we caused even more tension with a spray bottle for the house and other animals. I couldn’t watch them squirt down Sue. Eventually I got over it and then made Sha go through the same deal, along with my room. I’d rather have her pissed at me now then getting covered in fleas later. Might not solve it, but will cut it down some.
Later on our cousin showed up and we asked him bout the dogs. Fortunately, my mother and I know better, so asking was pointless. Then we were informed that the father and other son (dogs) will be coming here as well. I’m just glad our landlord is as cool as he is. Ok, he isn’t, his wife is HAHA
